Also, for your travel insurance to be valid, you need to have done the recommended vaccinations. Some vaccinations have multiple doses so it`s important that you plan to have your vaccination in advance of your departure date, usually 6-8 weeks prior. The service will be provided in a private consultation room where you can ask any questions you might have during the consultation. It is important to bring your vaccination history with you so the pharmacist can determine which vaccinations are needed. We also stock a wide range of travel essentials, including mosquito repellent, flight socks, anti-diarrhea and hydration therapy.

Anti-Malaria

Malaria a life-threatening disease caused by a parasite transmitted through the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. There are five species of parasites that cause malaria in humans, of which two, Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax, pose the greatest threat. If you are planning to travel, ask your pharmacist if you need antimalarial drugs. Your pharmacist will check your risk for malaria and the types of activities you do to determine whether you need antimalarial drugs. There are three types of antimalarial drugs available: doxycycline, malarone (generic and brand name), and Lariam. During your consultation, your pharmacist will explain which antimalarial drugs are right for you and the main advantages and disadvantages of each type.
